Johnny joined the band in 2007, replacing original bassist Alex Culpin. As well as bass, he has added guitar, pedal steel, banjo, sitar, keyboards, violin and a few other bits on The Snakes 2nd & 3rd albums.
Johnny started writing songs and formed his 1st band in 1978. Variously named (The Shades/The Time/20Days/My Favourite Things) the band played regularly until 1995 (and still play on special occasions!). In the late 80s/early 90s, as well as continuing to front his own band, Johnny was in the hungry i (ex-Primitives / eyeless in gaza), and toured Europe a few times with Martyn
Bates (from eyeless in gaza). He was also in Starpower (ex-Primitives), Hedy (ex-Primitives again), Honey Rider (with Dean from Limozine), and Instant Flight (with Marco from Mark & The Clouds).
Johnny is currently making an album with Simon Moor and playing live as Hot Snake Time Machine (with Simon & Dan Tilbury). He also plays in Mark & The Clouds, Limozine, The Snakeoil Rattlers, James McArthur & the head gardeners, the Anna Page Band and The Johns, as well as various studio & live session work for other artists.
