Johnny joined the band in 2007, replacing original bassist Alex Culpin. As well as bass, he has also played guitar, pedal steel, banjo, sitar, keyboards, violin and probably a few other bits on The Snakes 2nd & 3rd albums.

Johnny started writing songs and formed his first band in Coventry in 1978.  The band had various names (The Time, 20 Days, My Favourite Things), but the same line up for over 17 years and still play now and then, notably supporting INXS in the early 90s and last year playing on the same bill as The Snakes and Limozine at Johnny's 50th. Horace Panter, bassist with The Specials was an early fan of the band and introduced them for a reunion gig a few years ago, calling them "the second best band in Coventry".

When not occupied with The Snakes, John is also lead guitarist with garage rock band Limozine, plays guitar & bass for Mark & The Clouds and pedal steel for folk artist James McArthur & the head gardeners, along with various session work for other artists.

In the late 80s John was in the hungry i (ex-Primitives / eyeless in gaza), and toured Europe with Martyn Bates (from eyeless in gaza). In the 90s, as well as fronting his own band MFT, he was in Starpower (ex-Primitives), Hedy (ex-Primitives again) and Honey Rider (with Dean from Limozine). Since moving to London in 95 he has recorded and played live mostly with Anna Page Band, The Snakes, Limozine, James McArthur, Instant Flight, Tommy Hale, Mark & the Clouds, The Snakeoil Rattlers, plus various one off and occasional sessions with the likes of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown (one gig in Paris), Sky Saxon (a one off performance at The Boogaloo), the Redlands Palomino Co (live), 14 Iced Bears (live), the Devout Sceptics (studio), film composer Rob Lord (studio), Chris Coco (studio), Samantha Whates (studio & live).
